Nonfiction's Fiction

Early reports coming from across the Atlantic indicate the detonation of a nuclear device in the southern Russian city of Volgograd just hours after nightfall. The Russian response was swift with the deployment of a tactical nuclear strike on the Suez Canal from submarine forces located in the Mediterranean Sea. Conventional long range air strikes were also directed at multiple military targets in Iraq, Iran, and the Golan Heights. The breadth of the Russian response seems to correspond with the failure of its intelligence services to identify in such a short time frame the source of the nuclear attack on the historic city. Volgograd was formerly known as Stalingrad the site of the epic World War II battle that began in the summer of 1942. Al Qaeda, Mossad, and MI6 have been identified as potential sources behind the event according to experts on the subject.

NATO leadership is increasingly fractional as Germany has called for a general withdrawal from the Middle East and has begun a withdrawal of its own forces. The German Chancellor is proposing immediate multi-lateral "stabalizing" talks with the Russian head of state. The United Nations has called for an emergency assembly and is attempting to organize peace keeping forces so that international emergency personnel can respond to the civilian victims of the first nuclear attacks in war time since those inflicted upon Japan in 1945. It is rumored that China has manuervered mechanized and mountain forces to seize control of the Kashmir Region. However reports out of east Asia are conflicted and inconsistent. The Whitehouse is going to address the American People in a special televised news conference at 3pm today.
